Born on the 19th June 1957 Colin Robertson played his early football on the North West Coast of Tasmania making his senior debut with Cooee.
He also played for Wynyard and the Burnie Hawks prior to being recruited to Hawthorn.
He was a Tasmanian representative in the teams that played against Geelong at Ulverstone in 1979 and against Footscray in Hobart also in that year.
In the 1983 VFL grand final Essendon was an unbackable favourite after 4 finals win in a row however Hawthorn had other ideas and dominated from the start. In fact, the grand final was over well before half-time. The Hawk small men, led by Leigh Matthews, were magnificent and Michael Tuck was a brilliant link-man around the packs.
Hawthorn led by 57 points at half-time but, instead of sitting back and basking in the glory of a premiership, pushed the Bomber nose in the dirt by racing to a 87 points by the final break. Although Essendon scored a late flurry of goals, the Hawk winning margin of 83 points was a new grand final record. Hawk winger Colin Robertson won the Norm Smith Medal as best on ground.
Colin Robertson ended his career having played 300 games of competitive senior football.
