Jack Charlesworth was an ideal type of centre player. He had the height and weight and he knew how to bump. For a big man he had great pace and his long driving drop kicks invariably carried up to 40 to 50 yards. He had a sure pair of hands and rarely moved any distance from the centre of the ground.
Jack Charlesworth attended Queens School (later absorbed by Hutchins) and played with City (Hobart) during the war years in the Southern Tasmanian Football Association.
He played 196 games with Cananore and represented the TFL 28 times. During his long and illustrious career he also represented Tasmania a number of times.
