Max Griffiths played most of his career as a forward following his debut for Glenorchy in 1953.
In 1954 he won the club goalkicking tally with 55 goals and again in 1956 did it again with 42 goals.
In 1955 Max Griffiths won the Weller Arnold medal playing centre half forward. The touring Tasmanian side under captain coach Rex Garwood toured the ACT and New South Wales. Max Griffiths kicked 19 goals playing at full forward (10 vs NSW, 9 vs ACT) beating both sides they met.
Tasmania 21.18.144 beat NSW 7.12.54 and Tasmania 20.19.139 beat 9.7.61.
He became the Roy Cazaly medallist for club best and fairest for Glenorchy in 1959.
