Born on the 26th of October 1967, Michael Maple came to North Hobart from New Town High School in 1984 and commenced his senior career in 1985. This was to be the start of an illustrious and decorated career that was to last until 1998.
Michael formed a central part of the nucleus of a team that was to lead North Hobart into an era that resulted in four (4) Statewide premierships.
He was at various stages of his career considered to be the best full back and later the best on baller in the state. Always superbly fit, he is best remembered as a rugged running player whose nickname "THE OX" described his no nonsense approach to football.
He was also a reliable and long kick, a good spoiler and excellent mark.
Michael went on to play 149 senior games for the club including being a member of the 1987 and 1989 premiership teams.
In 1994 he won the TFL's highest individual award the WILLIAM LEITCH MEDAL for the Best & Fairest player.
For his playing service to the North Hobart Football club Michael was awarded PLAYER LIFE MEMBERSHIP.
